The Educators of Trees: Rhian Addison

Summary: In 1785 Alexander Cozens (1717-1786) explained that ‘Composing landscapes by invention, is not the art of imitating individual nature … it is forming artificial representation of landscape on the general principles of nature’. Drawing on works from the Whitworth collection, this essay will explore how both father and son used their passion for trees to educate.
